EITHY-FOUR YEARS LATER...

Dorade in the thirties... |
Fantastic attempt next June 28th, 2015!
The legendary yawl Dorade (1930,
design n° 7, Sparkman & Stephens – 52-foot long – 15,84 m) will try to
repeat her 1931 performance: to win for a second time, 84 years later, the
Transatlantic Race (West to East), from Newport (Rhode Island) to Plymouth
(England). That year Dorade sailed
the 2,800-mile race in 17 days, one hour and 14 minutes.

In 1931, Dorade was crewed by her young designer
Olin James Stephens II then twenty-one years old, along with his brother
Roderick “Rod”, their father and four other sailors. In 2015, the yawl will be
led by the actual shipowner, Matt Brooks (San Francisco).

The come
back of Dorade is impressive. In
2013, the yacht was the overall winner (corrected time) in the 2013 Transpac,
77 years after her fist success in this race. Last year in June, she also came
in first in her class under IRC int the Newport Bermuda Race! Same result than
Olin and Rod in 1930…

After the
2015 Transatlantic, in which 40 other boats will compete, Dorade will race the Rolex Fastnet Race, which she won overall in
1931 and 1933. What a task!
